Generators

Portable generators would do the trick when we are in need of power. This is the least expensive solution, yet we must keep in mind “what’s the catch”. Portable generators come in different sizes, as small as 1,500 watts (one circuit) to 8,000 watts (can power the essentials in your home).
Pull start units can be finicky when not operated regularly. Storage of the fuel is important to remember, and you will need to use a heavy duty rated extension cord as well. Most of the larger units can plug into a receptacle permanently installed outside connected to a manual transfer switch, your essential items (for example refrigerator, furnace, and a few lights) will be connected in a separate panel.
A permanently installed standby backup generator is connected to your existing natural gas or liquid propane, and sits outside just like a central air conditioning unit. They are available from 8,000 watts to 22,000 watts (larger units are available). A home backup generator delivers power directly to your home’s electrical system through a transfer switch. You will never have to run an extension cord through a window or door again. A transfer switch can be manual or fully automatic, delivering power safely to your entire home or just the most essential items.
